![]() Retrofit oil pressure warning light (oil line & pressure switch). Spare S/C pulley (milled down 94mm to 87mm). No silly Xmas sweaters here, thank you very much. So, the the presents I've ordered which are the best type as these will be exactly what I want and I'll use, oh the joy. It's not an ideal plan and it's putting things on the long finger, then again I'm good at that. After giving it some thought I'm now going to change the chain tensioner only, which hopefully will see the car good for another year/5,000 miles and then I'll revisit pulling the head off and doing all the associated work that will be involved. Initially undecided what course of action to take with the timing chain stretch (see previous posts). Nice and clean and the cams showing little or no wear. I'm leaning towards leaving it as is and inspect it in another year's time. Also, if I replace it I doubt very much I'd get the timing back to 20 degrees, more like 22 or 23 degrees due to some normal wear on the cam and crank gears. What to do? There's no noise from the chain, the stretch has had no effect on emissions and the engine is pulling like a train. Pulled the valve cover, locked the inlet cam and the found the timing was out by 5 degrees, factory spec is 20 degrees past top dead centre, mine was at 25 degrees. I decided to check the t/chain for stretch as I was bit concerned it might need replacing and if it did I'd pull the cylinder head, replace the head gasket, valve stem oil seals etc, etc. Happy with that result and backs up the weight recorded on previous tests. That makes it a light car by modern standards. One item I always check is the recorded weight, this time it came in 1375kg with the car tester guy aboard, allowing 75kg for the tester (a small guy) that puts the car 1300kg/2860lbs with a 1/4 tank of go-go juice. I'll have do something about the rear tyres come spring time, they're just on the legal limit and not great in the wet and because they're six years old I was given an advisory. ![]() The emissions is a good result as the car still has one of its original cats fitted and there's some timing chain stretch too (more on that further down). ![]() All went surprising well, passed with flying colours. Got the car tested before the winter sets in, the test was over due by two months so no harm. ![]()
